Sascha Calle is taking her version of Supergirl to HBO Max.

Set to debut as the Girl of Steel in Ezra Miller’s The Flash, Calle’s raven-haired Kara will go on via the small screen. This announcement is somewhat timely since Melissa Benoist‘s CW Supergirl series is in its sixth and final season. Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen is also taking his final bow this year.

Sascha Calle as Supergirl – What Do We Know So Far, and Michael Keaton?!?

At this point there is little known about Sascha’s Supergirl aside from the Cavill-centric uniform, which received mixed reaction. Rumor has it the series will flesh out Supergirl’s backstory prior to her involvement in the Flashpoint-inspired cinematic adventure. Initially Calle was to star in a film treatment, but it’s unclear as to whether the pandemic had anything to do with the shift to the small screen.

Calle, who gained fame on daytime as Lola Rosales on CBS’s The Young and The Restless, beat out 400 other actresses to win the role last year.  She is the first Latina actress to portray Supergirl in live-action.

One thing that has been confirmed is that Henry Cavill’s Superman will not make an appearance on the show. This further feeds speculation that Warner Bros. is truly done with Zack Snyder’s version of The Man of Tomorrow. Indeed the studio is moving forward with development of a film treatment featuring an African-American version that has been seen in the DC Multiverse. However, Cavill has discreetly noted that he is not done yet with The Man of Steel. Since The Flash is the cinematic entry point for theater goers into the DC Multiverse, it’s all good.

The plot of the film, based on the infamous Flashpoint miniseries, follows Barry’s attempt to go back in time to prevent his mother’s murder and his father’s resulting wrongful conviction of the crime. The unfortunate consequence is a butterfly effect that alters the timeline. Besides Supergirl being active instead of her cousin, Barry will also encounter the 1989 Batman, played by Michael Keaton. This will mark the first time the actor has reprised the role since 1992’s Batman Returns. Further, this Batman will share a bond with Calle’s Supergirl as that reality’s World’s Finest. This film will also make history by having two Dark Knights on the screen, as Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne also appears.

The Flash is due in theaters November 4, 2022.
