Becky Cloonan and Michael W. Conrad spoke to Matthew B. Lloyd of DC Comics News recently about their work. The writing team gave insight on their current Wonder Woman run as well as on the recently finished Midnighter feature that appeared in Action Comics #1029-1033 and concluded in the Midnighter 2021 Annual.  Cloonan and Conrad take a very character-focused approach even when they have a compelling plot to unfurl. They’ve been doing it on Wonder Woman since issue #770 in the “Afterworlds” story arc and they’ve got a lot more planned for the character. Wonder Woman returns to Earth in issue #780 and you can hear them talk about why that is so important.
As well as discussing some of their non-DC Comics work, Cloonan and Conrad previewed the upcoming Batgirls title. No spoilers of course, but readers can look forward to seeing how Barbara Gordon, Cassandra Cain, and Stephanie Brown get along in a POSITIVE way- no cliches here! Batgirls launches as a new series in December, but the story begins during the events of Fear State as a second feature in Batman #115 due to hit shelves on October 19.
Cloonan and Conrad first teamed up for DC Comics on Doom Patrol: Weight of the Wolds #5 under the Young Animal Comics imprint. Additionally, the pair maintain a comic book collaborative collective, Mystery School Comics Group. You can find out more about it at https://mysteryschool.bigcartel.com/. Â
