Arkham Asylum series to spin off from The Batman

A week removed from the release of The Batman in cinemas the general consensus seems positive.  Directed by Matt Reeves, we have been introduced to a brand new Gotham.  Reeves has since confirmed that we will be getting an Arkham Asylum series to spin-off from The Batman movie.  We know very little so far about the show so far other than it centers around the famous asylum.  However with Arkham being involved this opens the show up to a wide array of Batman Villains and characters.

In a recent interview with The Cyber Nerds Reeves gave more information on the show.  He revealed that this idea had evolved from the original proposal of a Gotham PD show:

We’ve actually now [moved] more into the realm of exactly what would happen in the world of Arkham as it relates coming off of our movie and some of the characters and their origins…almost leaning into the idea of, it’s like a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham. Again the way that Gotham is a character in the movie, I really want Arkham to exist as a character. You go into this environment and encounter these characters in a way that feels really fresh. And so in our work on Gotham, that story started to evolve, and it started feeling [like], ‘Wait, we should really lean into this.’ And then that’s kinda where that’s gone.

This also follows the news that the Penguin (played by Collin Farrell) will also be getting a spin-off show from the same universe.

Spoilers Ahead

(Don’t read on if you haven’t seen The Batman).  It appears that this iteration of the Dark Knight is going to lead into a whole Bat-verse of its own.  Although we don’t have any confirmation of whether or not Robert Pattinson will feature at any point, following the revelations made by the Riddler in The Batman and the reveal that his mother’s family name is Arkham it would be an interesting angle to take.  The show will air on HBO Max.
