The 2005 film, Constantine, starring Keanu Reeves, was recently announced to be getting a long-awaited sequel, but after the announcement of James Gunn’s upcoming DCU slate, and no mention of this film, people were worried that it wasn’t going to happen. There was even an report circulating from an “industry insider” claiming the project was being scrapped.

Well, that’s not the case, as a spokesperson for Warner Bros. has come out to debunk these claims, confirming with EW that Constantine 2 is NOT being scrapped, and will be moving forward, with Keanu Reeves still set to reprise his role as the chain-smoking, cynical master of the occult, John Constantine.

It was announced last year that Reeves would return for a sequel, alongside filmmaker Francis Lawrence, who directed the first movie. Where exactly this film will land within the overall scheme of Gunn’s DCU isn’t completely clear, but I feel like it can be safely assumed that this will fall within the realm of the DC Elseworlds line, alongside films like The Batman: Part 2 and Joker: Folie Ă  Deux .

The question is, what if it is part of the main DCU? What if we see Keanu Reeves’ Constantine show up in the Swamp Thing movie, which is reportedly being helmed by the very talented James Mangold? This could lead us into a possible Justice League Dark movie, which is something that people have been wanting for so long. Or maybe it will stay as an Elseworlds story, and a new, different, more comic accurate Constantine **cough Matt Ryan cough cough** will show up and lead us further into the dark.

It’ll only be a matter of time before we know exactly where this film will fit in, and DC Comics News will be here to let you know all the news as more unfolds. So stay tuned, folks!!
